Renate had her own car for 33 years. Then she joined Mobility as CFO – and has been enjoying the extra fresh air ever since.
Renate, why did you switch from having your own car to car sharing?
I had a company car with my previous employer, which I handed back when I left in March 2024. I would also be entitled to a company car with Mobility, but I deliberately decided not to get one, because it's easy for me to commute from Muri to Rotkreuz using public transport. I also wanted to see if I could live without my own car (I'd always had my own car, ever since I was 18 years old – that's 33 years!).
What concerns did you have prior to using Mobility?
I didn't really have any major concerns, but decided to just do it, knowing that I could get my own car again at any time.
How do you get about at the moment?
By train, bicycle, on foot, with the Mobility car and as a passenger with my partner.
What does the Mobility offer look like where you live?
There are two cars: One at the Raiffeisenbank, one at the station.
How often do you use Mobility and for what purpose?
Between once and three times a month: for appointments that are difficult or time-consuming to get to using public transport, or for journeys to tennis tournaments when I have a lot of luggage.
Be honest: Are there situations when you miss having your own car?
At first, yes: for example, when I wanted to go shopping. However, I quickly adapted and I'm now better at planning ahead or I adjust my habits.
What has changed in terms of your commute to work?
I get a lot more exercise and fresh air: I used to take the lift to get from my apartment to the garage, get in the car and do the same thing on the way back from the office. I now take my bike or walk to the station, take the train and then walk to the office.
«People are creatures of habit. So give it time.»
What would you do if Mobility's offer did not exist?
I'd be very tempted to buy my own car again – even though this makes no sense from a rational point of view.
What's your best car sharing tip for beginners?
Give it a try and give it some time: People are creatures of habit – including when it comes to mobility – and this won't change overnight. But it's worth sticking with it!
Have you had any memorable experiences using Mobility?
Yes, I was almost starting to despair because I just couldn't get the door to open and I'd already looked up the phone number of the Service Centre – that's when I noticed I was standing in front of the wrong car – since then, I've always checked the number plate in the reservation.
