Electromobility:

Our promise: Climate-neutral mobility

Electromobility in Switzerland: Mobility is top

Sustainability and togetherness are the cornerstones of the Mobility idea, which we have been pursuing since 1997 and which we pass on every day. Mobility wants to achieve climate neutrality. That’s why we have set ourselves the goal of gradually electrifying our entire fleet over the next few years.

Mobility not only invented car sharing, the cooperative is also leading the way in electromobility. Mobility already has more than 600 electric cars in use today. With a total of more than 3,000 vehicles, this corresponds to a figure of 20%. This figure is top throughout Switzerland, because: In 2024, around 203,000 purely electric cars were registered, which corresponded to a share of passenger cars of 4.2%.

«Our long-term goal is to become climate-neutral as a company as quickly as possible, says Roland Lötscher, Managing Director of Mobility.»

What does climate-neutral mean

Sustainability is deeply rooted in Mobility’s DNA: our sharing concept has always been about protecting the environment. Our decision to go climate-neutral by 2040 reflects our aim as a company to do our very best to protect the climate and create a world worth living in for future generations. This includes not just how the vehicles are powered: it covers all emissions generated by the cooperative and the products it uses. Examples include commuting by employees, suppliers’ carbon footprint, and the grey energy generated in the manufacture of vehicles and their batteries.

There are different levels of climate neutrality. Mobility aims to reach the highest level by 2040 (LCA).

  • Tank to Wheel: This refers to all driving emissions resulting from the direct combustion of fossil fuels.

  • Well to Tank: This refers to emissions that come about as a result of the production of energy (electricity production/oil production).

  • Well to Wheel: This is the emissions from driving and energy.

  • Life Cycle Assessment: These are emissions that occur over the entire lifecycle of a product (extraction of raw materials, production of vehicles or batteries, disposal, etc.).

Challenge of charging infrastructure and finding a parking space

A lot of challenges await Mobility on this ambitious path.

Setting up and expanding the charging infrastructure is a difficult and expensive task. Did you know? Mobility does not own the parking spaces where the red cars are parked. She rents it and is dependent on the landlord’s consent when converting to electric. It takes at least six monthsuntil an e-parking space can be put into operation. By comparison: A petrol car park is usually available within four weeks.

One thing is clear: Resistance is the order of the day, and an e-parking space cannot be implemented everywhere. More than ever, expertise and patience are needed to move Mobiltiy and Switzerland forward. But Mobility is doing everything it can to set a good example here too. For us. For you. For Switzerland.

Another challenge relates to usage. Prejudices and reservations about electromobility remain high. The ongoing development of an intelligent and user-friendly booking system is essential to ensure that electric cars are easy to use. If the first e-experience is positive, there is a greater chance that an electric car will also be reserved the second time.

Our subscriptions and rates

You will find state-of-the-art electric cars at various Mobility stations throughout Switzerland. Take advantage of our versatile fleet and be inspired by clean e-mobility. Our models have ever longer ranges and offer a new driving experience – modern, quiet and emission-free.

Never tried an electric car? Thanks to Mobility, you can try out various models with no obligations (no monthly fees and can be cancelled every day). Or as GLP President Jürg Grossen recently said in an interview: “Mobility enables people to test electric cars easily and cheaply.”

Ride on electricity – by and with SwissEnergy

“Ride with the current” is a SwissEnergy programme, which supports people in Switzerland in making the switch to energy-efficient vehicles with alternative drive systems. The focus is on electric cars that offer an outstanding environmental footprint and energy efficiency. The programme offers easy-to-understand information and a comprehensive overview of electric cars, the environment and charging infrastructure. Given the high energy consumption in the transport sector and the high proportion of fossil fuels, there is a need to jointly reach the climate target.

On the road – fully charged

Many people still have their reservations about e-mobility: how does an e-car actually work, how far you can travel, where and how quickly can I charge my e-car – especially when I’m in the middle of a journey? The charging infrastructure in Switzerland is much more advanced than you might think. With our partner Swisscharge a wide range of high-speed charging stations are available for you. here it takes 10 minutes to charge your e-car for an additional range of up to 150 km. Naturally using power from 100% renewable sources.
