"If Mobility didn't exist, I'd come up with the idea myself"

Beni has never owned a car of his own and even as a father remains loyal to car sharing. Mobility was even there with him on his wedding day.
Beni, what concerns did you have about car sharing that turned out to be wrong?
Before our daughter was born, we weren't sure if we would suddenly find that we needed a car after all. At present (after just over a year), we're still managing without one.
How do you usually get about at the moment?
If it's in the local area and the weather's fine, by bicycle. Otherwise by public transport, Mobility or a rented car.
What does the Mobility offer look like where you live?
Well, we have three locations in the village and a van just outside. What more could you ask for?
How often do you use Mobility and for what purpose?
Once or twice a month for the big shopping/waste clear-out trip. And for visiting family, because it's sometimes easier than public transport when you have children with you.
Be honest: Are there situations when you miss having your own car?
"Kid logistics" (picking up a car, fitting a child's car seat) simply takes time and a little coordination and is easier done as a pair. It would be easier if we already had a car with children's car seats fitted in the garage.
What do you feel is the greatest positive effect of car sharing?
I think it's a more "conscious" form of driving. You think about what you'll use the car for, get a few things done together and are maybe a little more efficient because you have to return the car. And you have the exact car you need for every occasion. Shopping and getting rid of waste? Combi (estate). Visiting the grandparents? Economy is fine. Moving house? Van.
How do you think car sharing could be made even better?
Obviously by having a location with three different categories right on my doorstep. But on a serious note: sufficient availability, simple pricing and a good community, and then hopefully many people will see the benefits of it.
«It's worth booking a van a few days in advance.»
What would you do if Mobility's offer did not exist?
I'd come up with the idea myself. In other words, it always comes about by itself when, for example, two families share a car or companies have pool vehicles. The need for mobility is there, and with it the need to use the resource (the car) sensibly, efficiently and somewhat more sustainably.
What's your best car sharing tip for beginners?
Vans are in demand, so it's worth booking a few days in advance. And reserve them for half an hour longer. It won't cost you an arm and a leg and it saves you the stress if you suddenly have someone book it out after you.
Have you had any memorable experiences using Mobility?
Oh, there are plenty:
A negative one was when I used it to transport a few things on my wedding day and completely forgot to return the vehicle afterwards. I was very embarrassed and it cost me dearly.
A funny experience was when we were out and about with the marching band for Carnival and I hadn't been to bed the night before and was completely dead on my feet before the next evening rolled around. So I reserved a car, tilted the passenger seat back and slept for an hour, then left again.
A positive experience was a trip around Lake Zug with my wife in a convertible on a beautiful summer's day.
