UNESCO World Heritage Landwasser Viaduct

But now it’s time for the voyage of discovery! On the way to Filisur, there’s something you can’t miss; the world-famous Landwasser Viaduct. Please note: The UNESCO World Heritage site is unimaginable from the road – despite the fact that the bridge is an impressive 142 metres long and 65 metres high. The most photographed sight in Graubünden is a ten-minute walk from the car park (also easily accessible with pushchairs). If you prefer a slightly more breezy view of the viaduct, you can find more vantage point on the website.

From Filisur to Bergün to the Railway Museum

The Albula Pass (open only in summer) is one of the most picturesque and leisurely Alpine passes. The narrow road winds its way up from Filisur towards Bergün in tight bends at the edge of a deep gorge. The beautiful mountain village is worth a stop in both winter and summer!

As well as strolling through the old village centre, a stop at the Albula Railway Museum is recommended. There you can find out more about the History and significance of the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage route between Thusis and Tirano. The museum offers excellent entertainment for young and old alike.

“Little Adventurer” specialises in family outings and has tested the Railway Museum for Mobility. Her conclusion: “The exhibition is particularly suitable for families as it is incredibly interactive. You can try out a lot for yourself, build, manoeuvre trains and much more. The children also receive a free puzzle booklet. If the riddles are solved correctly, there is even a surprise at the end.”

Insider tip: Those who venture to Bergün in the winter months and enjoy action can sledge from Preda to Bergün.

Along the viaducts and helical tunnels of the Albula Line

From Bergün, you continue uphill towards Preda. On this section, the well-known Albula railway line crosses the road several times. If you’ve been careful in the Mountain Museum, you can now observe what you’ve learned in nature. Thanks to the helical tunnels, the train can overcome the 400-metre difference in altitude between Bergün and Preda without any problems. A masterpiece of railway engineering!

Picnic on Lake Palpuogna?

As RhB disappears into the Albula Tunnel in Preda, there is now time for a hint of nature – and perhaps a picnic? The perfect opportunity is a few bends above Preda on the banks of the Lai da Palpuogna, as the small mountain lake is called in Romansh. The lake is located directly on the pass road and is therefore very popular. The crystal-clear water, the striking mountains in the background and the golden-yellow larches make this place a gem on a beautiful autumn day. The website of Graubünden Tourism even states that “Switzerland’s most beautiful spot” the speech.

Graubünden Ferien and Mobility are sustainably mobile

Graubünden Ferien and Mobility are responding to the growing need for clean mobility during holidays. As a result, the “Graubünden sustainably mobile” project started. This aims to develop combined mobility between public transport and e-car sharing and establish it among holidaymakers and locals alike. The aim of this offer is to ensure that long distances (particularly the journey) are shifted to public transport and that only shorter distances are covered locally by car.
