Sharing and having a say: how to help shape the future of Mobility
16.10.2025

How does participation actually work at Mobility? Head of Cooperative Business Tanja Trottmann explains how members can make their voices heard from day one and the different ways in which they can take on responsibility.
Mobility is not just a practical car-sharing service but a cooperative supported by its members. Those who join become part of something bigger: at Mobility, people share vehicles, take joint responsibility and actively shape the organisation’s future. Whether at assemblies, in focus groups or as delegates – every member has the chance to be heard and help steer the cooperative.
What does it mean to be a member of the Mobility cooperative?
Anyone who buys a share automatically becomes a co-owner of Mobility and gains real voting rights. “Around 76,000 people belong to this community today. Together, they help decide which direction Mobility should take,” explains Tanja Trottmann, Head of Cooperative Business.
How can I get involved in my region?
By becoming a member, you automatically belong to one of 19 regional sections. Members meet at their section assemblies once a year. “At these meetings we provide updates on developments, projects and overall business performance,” says Tanja Trottmann. The meetings are a place for discussion, for sharing ideas, and for experiencing the cooperative community first-hand.

What do delegates do?
Delegates are elected every two years by members in their region at the so-called Member Meetings. They then represent their region’s interests at the conference of delegates – the “parliament” of the cooperative. This is where key decisions are made, such as approving the annual accounts, amending the statutes, or electing members of the Board of Directors.
What responsibilities does the role involve?
Delegates stay informed about business developments, discuss matters with members of their section, and form their own opinions. At the conference they vote according to their best judgement – independently of any majority position within their section. “Delegates represent the members of the cooperative and share responsibility for the well-being of the Mobility Cooperative,” says Tanja Trottmann. They have access to extensive information channels and the right to submit motions or written enquiries.
«We involve members in issues that go beyond formal requirements, and we maintain a high level of transparency. That’s what creates a genuine sense of community.»Tanya Trottmann
Can I get involved outside these meetings?
Yes. Mobility organises so-called focus groups in which members can contribute their ideas and feedback – on new services, products or sustainability issues, for instance. “In these focus groups we get to hear directly what matters most to our members,” says Tanja Trottmann. “We then feed this input into the ongoing development of our cooperative.”
What makes Mobility different from other cooperatives?
Mobility offers a wider range of roles and ways to take part – from delegate or deputy delegate to section president or member of a specialist committee. And at Mobility, participation goes beyond formal decision-making; it’s also about open dialogue and transparency. “We involve members in issues that go beyond the formal requirements, and we maintain a high level of transparency. That’s what creates a genuine sense of community.”
