How does car sharing fit in with Vevey's mobility strategy?
Car sharing will enable the city to meet the targets it has set itself in its Climate Plan and PDCOM. At present, individual transport is the predominant form of mobility in Vevey, and the town is therefore seeking to promote other forms of mobility (soft and shared) to make public spaces more accessible and attractive. In this way, the city is seeking to increase the number of car-sharing schemes, as they free up parking spaces in public spaces. The Climate Plan defines the main challenges in terms of mobility as: reducing the number of vehicles in Vevey, reducing individual motorised vehicle traffic and gradually reducing the amount of space devoted to cars in the area. In terms of shared mobility, the city is aiming to achieve the following targets: by 2032, the number of Mobility car-sharing vehicles per thousand inhabitants should be 13.6, and it wants 100% of the car-sharing fleet within its boundaries to be electric by 2032.
Why has the local authority chosen Mobility car sharing?
Mobility is a car-sharing service with a strong presence in Switzerland, with a highly relevant network from a multimodal point of view. The quality and breadth of the range on offer make Mobility a key car-sharing partner.
What are the overall benefits of Mobility for the local authority?
Mobility vehicles help to reduce the number of individual motorised vehicles and parking spaces in public spaces, thereby helping to achieve some of the objectives of the Climate Plan and the PDCOM.
Have you been able to save parking spaces thanks to the parking zones for Mobility vehicles?
It is estimated that one Mobility car can replace up to 18 personal vehicles. In this sense, if the number of users of the service increased in Vevey, there would theoretically be a need for more than one parking space for 18 households. This represents a significant saving in space. The city is not there yet, but the 17 Mobility vehicles currently on the territory have already saved a few parking spaces.
To what extent do you think car sharing really helps to make more space available in Vevey?
Car-sharing makes more space available in public spaces by limiting the number of parking spaces in the area. The space thus freed up can be used for pedestrian, cycle or meeting facilities (benches, tables, etc.).
How do you publicise your mobility offers to residents?
We use the city's website, billboard networks and social networks to inform residents about our mobility offers.
What are you offering local residents to support car-sharing? What about other sharing services?
We offer subsidies for shared mobility through our Energy and Sustainable Development Fund. These subsidies concern: the use of a car-sharing vehicle (Mobility, 2EM, gomore) and the provision of a car-sharing vehicle, which can be subsidised up to CHF 200. (http://www.vevey.ch/fedd) Vevey recently took part in the "one month without my car" campaign, which offered free Mobility season tickets for one month to participants who wanted them.
What feedback have you received from local residents?
Residents who use the system seem satisfied.
What role does car sharing play in the long-term objectives of promoting the economy and the climate?
By helping to reduce the number of vehicles and traffic in the area, car-sharing helps to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, both inside and outside the area, and therefore contributes to the City's objectives of reducing GHG emissions. By reducing the number of parking spaces required in public spaces, car-sharing also allows more space for pedestrians in the city, making it more attractive, which in turn benefits local businesses.
What would you recommend to other local authorities based on your experience?
Providing opportunities for local residents interested in a car-sharing service to meet experienced users. In fact, one of the obstacles to using carsharing that we identified was the fear that using the system would be "too complicated". This can be done at special events or on a mobility promotion day, for example.
Was würden Sie anderen Gemeinden aufgrund Ihrer Erfahrung empfehlen?
