Live a sustainable life
Live in the Ecoquartier and benefit from Mobility
20.01.2025
11,000 people are expected to live and work in the north of Lausanne by 2034. Anyone living in the Plaines-du-Loup Ecoquartier receives a free Mobility membership. An on-site inspection.
Climate-friendly living: More than just a trend
Across Europe, ecologically focused neighbourhoods are on the rise. There are also exciting examples in Switzerland. It’s worth taking a closer look at French-speaking Switzerland, for example Les Vergers eco-district in Meyrin or Plaines-du-Loup in Lausanne. What these projects particularly impressively illustrate: The aim is to develop sustainable urban areas that combine the three pillars of sustainable development – social solidarity, environmental responsibility and economic efficiency.
In the area of environment, the focus is on key principles, e.g. the following: Reduction of carbon emissions, economical use of resources (water, energy, materials), conservation of biodiversity and sustainable mobility through car sharing. Conclusion: Eco-districts are more than just a trend.
Plaines-du-Loup: 11,000 people are supposed to live here one day
Let’s take a closer look at the Plaines-du-Loup project, which opened in 2024. By 2034, the district is to house around 11,000 inhabitants, workplaces and high-quality sports facilities in the north of Lausanne while also meeting the environmental, social and economic concerns of the city of Lausanne.
Free Mobility membership when moving in
This is where car sharing was considered from the outset and integrated into the mobility concept. Mobility cars are available on site around the clock. As soon as the residents of the district move into their homes, they benefit from a free Mobility membership. This means they can not only use the vehicles available in the neighbourhood, but also more than 3’000 vehicles in the Mobility fleet available throughout Switzerland.
Sustainable mobility requires an environmentally friendly type of drive. That’s why Mobility and its partners have installed charging stations for electric cars in Plaines-du-Loup’s central car park.
More car for less money
The car sharing service fits seamlessly into the region’s public transport network and offers a comprehensive mobility solution that is accessible around the clock (24/7, 365 days a year). Residents can use the Mobility service for individual journeys or for combined journeys by train, bus or bicycle. This flexibility allows the residents of Plaines-du-Loup to cover all their mobility needs and thus reduce their dependence on private cars while optimising their budget.
Mobility offer is constantly updated
The Mobility offer is constantly adapting to the circumstances. This means that If the needs of the district change, so does what is offered. This is what happened in Lutry, where more electric cars were wanted and Mobility adapted its offer accordingly. An agreement exists for Plaines-du-Loup which stipulates that the infrastructure – e.g. B. Charging stations and shared parking spaces – should be further developed and appropriate adaptations made, should they be desired or necessary.
Lausanne and Mobility are exemplary
By integrating Mobility into this new district, Lausanne is demonstrating that shared mobility is an important asset for the cities of tomorrow. At the same time, Mobility is participating in the “Habitat with reduced parking space“ of the TCS (Swiss Transport Club) to promote this exemplary model throughout Switzerland.
