Make a start at age 17
If you’re 17 this year, you’ve drawn the big prize: You’re one of the very first to be allowed to drive. The new traffic regulations are designed to give you as much driving experience as possible. Of course, the federal government has thought something about this: You should be able to navigate traffic more safely, be able to get into professions that require a driving licence more easily, and get from A to B faster if you live off the mark. Incidentally, it is unclear whether the new law will remain forever: An initial conclusion will be drawn in three years’ time. Either way, we Swiss are in good company with the new model: In the USA, Germany, Austria, Spain, Norway and Sweden, the age of 17 also applies, while in France there are even 16-year-olds on the road. However, whether this will stop the trend that Learner drivers are getting older, remains to be seen.
Fewer and fewer privately owned cars
If your parents don’t own a car, they’re not alone – on the contrary. In Basel, 55% of all households are car-free, and the figure is around half in Zurich, Lausanne and Geneva, too. So there’s a good chance you have peers who’d be interested in using Mobility for practice. If you recommend us to others via the Mobility app, you will collect CHF 20 – as a small bonus to your driving test.
