A very special Mobility car now stands in front of the 68-metre-high Akara Tower. Baden became the home of the 500th Electric cars, fits into the car-sharing-savvy region.

The city of Baden is one more attraction. A few months ago, the 68-metre-high Akara Tower, the tallest building in the city, was completed on the ABB site. Spread over 19 floors, it houses 150 apartments and around 2,200 square metres of commercial, office and service space. A special highlight is that the roof terrace areas can be booked for events and private occasions.

These are wonderful prospects for the people of Baden, but Mobility is also delighted with the Akara Tower: “Projects like this are an opportunity for us to open up new stations,” emphasises Gianluigi Gianforte, who is responsible for the regions of Aargau and Zurich at Mobility. No sooner said than done. Tenants of the Akara Tower and all other interested parties can now find two new Mobility vehicles right in front of the impressive high-rise building. One of them is the 500th Mobility e-vehicle. For once, it doesn’t come in the typical Mobility red, but with special foil in keeping with the theme of electrification – the mobile splash of colour was designed by the artists’ collective REAL Crew.

Baden is particularly fond of car sharing

With the purchase of the 500th Electric cars Mobility has reached another milestone on its way to complete electrification. However, the fact that this milestone will be achieved in Baden of all places came about by chance. “We are pushing ahead with the switch to electric vehicles throughout the country,” emphasises Magdalena Balogh, Head of Market Development at Mobility. Nevertheless, the Baden station is a good fit. “This region is very fond of car sharing and electrics.” One reason for this is that the city is specifically promoting the installation of electric charging stations and their accessibility. For example, there are twelve Mobility e-cars at Baden railway station. Altogether, almost 56% of Mobility cars in Baden are electric – “a very high figure,” emphasises Magdalena Balogh.

Although the 500th Electric cars could also be located in Basel, Geneva or Zurich, Gianluigi Gianforte is proud of the new station. “The project shows that we’re on the right track.” The 34-year-old has been with Mobility for seven years. During this time, his work has changed a lot. After all, “Compared to a conventional car park, the realisation of an electric location is much more time-consuming.” Mobility currently expects to take six months to complete the realisation of an e-station – this is around six times more than at a conventional station.

You can also book the car: You’ll find it less than five minutes from Baden railway station.

Every new station is an asset

“Every electrical location is associated with a great deal of passion and dedication,” emphasises Gianforte. But it’s worth it. “When you consider that one Mobility car replaces eleven private cars, the commitment is worth it every time.” Magdalena Balogh is also convinced of this. What makes the Akara Tower station particularly attractive is the fact that it is a new building that combines modern residential and commercial space. “Today, mobility plays an important role in new construction projects as early as the planning stage,” she explains. Thanks to the cooperative arrangements, Mobility is already involved in the planning phase. “This makes our work easier.” At existing stations, converting to electric vehicles sometimes poses greater challenges.

17% of Mobility cars are electric

Whether it’s a new building or an existing station: Thanks to the consistent expansion of the electric fleet, around 17% of Mobility’s total of 3’000 cars are now electric. By way of comparison, in 2023, only 3.3% of all passenger cars on Swiss roads were purely electric vehicles. Mobility is moving fast, and so is the learning curve. “We gain valuable experience with every project,” emphasises Magdalena Balogh. “These encourage us to stick to our goal of complete electrification by 2030.” The next milestone will certainly follow soon.
