Climate-friendly living: More than just a trend

Eco-friendly neighbourhoods are on the rise all over Europe. There are also exciting examples in Switzerland. It is worth taking a closer look at the French-speaking part of Switzerland, for example at the Ecoquartier Les Vergers in Meyrin or Plaines-du-Loup in Lausanne. What these projects illustrate particularly impressively: The aim is to develop sustainable urban areas that combine the three pillars of sustainable development - social solidarity, ecological responsibility and economic efficiency.

In the area of environment, the focus is on key principles, e.g. the following: Reduction of carbon emissions, economical use of resources (water, energy, materials), preservation of biodiversity and sustainable mobility through car sharing. Conclusion: Eco-neighbourhoods are more than just a trend.

Plaines-du-Loup: 11,000 people are said to have once lived here

Let's take a closer look at the Plaines-du-Loup project, which will open in 2024. By 2034, the neighbourhood should be home to around 11,000 residents, jobs and high-quality sports facilities in the north of Lausanne, while also meeting the environmental, social and economic concerns of the city of Lausanne.

Mobility membership as a gift when you move in

Here, car sharing was considered from the outset and integrated into the mobility concept. Mobility cars are available on the site around the clock. As soon as residents of the neighbourhood move into their flat, they benefit from a free Mobility membership. This means that they can not only use the vehicles available in the neighbourhood, but also over 3000 vehicles from the Mobility fleet, which are available throughout Switzerland.

Sustainable mobility requires an environmentally friendly drive system. Mobility and its partners have therefore installed charging stations for electric cars in the central car park in Plaines-du-Loup.

More car for less money

The car sharing service fits seamlessly into the region's public transport network and offers a comprehensive mobility solution that is accessible around the clock (24/7, 365 days a year). Residents can use the mobility service for individual journeys or for combined journeys by train, bus or bicycle. This flexibility enables the residents of Plaines-du-Loup to cover all their mobility needs and thus reduce their dependence on private cars while optimising their budget.

Mobility offer is constantly being adapted

The Mobility offering is constantly adapting to changing circumstances. This means that If the needs of the neighbourhood change, the offer also changes. This is what happened in Lutry, where more electric cars were requested and Mobility adapted its offering accordingly. There is an agreement in place for Plaines-du-Loup which stipulates that the infrastructure - such as charging stations and shared car parks - will be further developed and appropriate adjustments made if desired or necessary.

Lausanne and Mobility are exemplary

By integrating Mobility into this new neighbourhood, Lausanne is demonstrating that shared mobility is an important asset for the cities of tomorrow. At the same time, Mobility is participating in the "Habitat à stationnement réduit" of the TCS (Swiss Transport Club) to promote this exemplary model throughout Switzerland.
