From April, electric cars will be stationed at 16 locations without own charging point. Charging is performed on the go. Users who reserve such cars and charge them during the journey will receive a credit. The aim is to ramp up electromobility and make it more flexible.

Key points at a glance

  • From April onwards, Mobility will be offering individual electric cars without own charging points.

  • The project includes 16 Mobility locations in predominantly urban areas.

  • Charging will take place as part of reservation on the go.

  • Anyone reserving and charging an electric car without own charging point will receive a reward. He or she will get an amount (depending on charge level) credited to their Mobility account.

  • Mobility is also looking for Charging Angels: Mobility users who charge vehicles with low charge levels.

Users charge on the go

From April, the Mobility fleet will include electric cars without own charging points at the location. Instead, users will charge the vehicles on the go. The launch will take place at selected Mobility locations in predominantly urban areas.

Charging an electric car in Switzerland – it’s this easy

Never charged an electric car? No problem – we’ll show you what you need to do. This video shows you how to find a suitable electric car charging point, how long charging takes, which sockets you need – and how you can operate the station confidently and without stress.

Switzerland now has almost twice as many charging points as petrol stations

There are several reasons why Mobility’s offering electric cars without own charging points:

  • Switzerland’s ready – the number of public charging points is growing and, at over 6,500, there are already twice as many as there are petrol stations. Charging on the go will soon be common practice.

  • Mobility users are ready – manuals are available for every electric car (on the website or in the app), and charging is included in the price. Every car has a charging card.

  • The cars are ready – electric car battery technology’s constantly improving. Thanks to the expansion of the charging infrastructures, concepts like this are becoming increasingly viable.

  • Mobility has its sights on the future – with this launch, it’s shaping the e-mobility of the future. Electric cars without own charging point fit seamlessly into modern mobility concepts that focus on flexibility and sustainability. They are an important step towards making electromobility in Switzerland more flexible and accessible. As a sustainable company, we want to electrify our entire vehicle fleet. It helps if you don’t have to install a charging point for every electric car. After all, it typically takes at least six months to set up a parking space for an electric car.

Where are these electric cars without charging points located?

A small number of customers have an electric car without charging points in their vicinity. The following 16 locations have been selected for the pilot test:

The vehicles can be booked as normal by all Mobility customers. They are shown with the note “Electric vehicle without charging point at the location”.

Charge to earn Mobility credit

Anyone reserving a car without its own charging point and charging it on the go will receive drive credit paid into their Mobility account. The amount depends on the range charged. CHF 1 for every 10% charge level increase, plus CHF 1 charging start premium.

The vehicles without charging points are part of the regular Mobility fleet. Don’t worry: Mobility will keep an eye on the electric cars in question. A car with a critical charging level is not rented out to persons.

Mobility’s looking for Charging Angels

To ensure that these cars have as high a charge level as possible, we’re looking for people who help to reserve cars with a low charging level and charge them on the go. These Charging Angels are rewarded with a higher Mobility credit.
